In the year 2081 Kurt Vonnegut describes everyone as being equal. To ensure this, people are given handicaps to limit their abilities. For instance, a strikingly beautiful person would have to wear a mask so she would not have an advantage over others.
If I were livnig in this society, I would have to have handicaps as well. One handicap would be the one George has in the story. Whenever he thinks, a screeching noise is emitted into his ear. Most people would need this, because we all think at some point. Another handicap I might be required to wear, are weights. I'm not too strong, but I dance and run track so my legs might be stronger than others.
Another handicap could limit my creativeness. I like playing guitar and doing crafts, so a possible handicap could include breaking my hands. I also like singing, so the handicapper general might give me a speech impetiment. (my singing voice isn't anywhere close to amazing, but it's not terrible...)
Isn't breaking your hands a little extreme? If they broke your hands you would not be able to do anything with your hands and then someone who wasn't as artsy as you could make better crafts than you. Maybe if they gave you arthritis in your finger joints it would even out.
ReplyDeleteI shuttered a little bit when you said they'd break your hands! I love your PETSSSS SO CUTE!!! I feel like if you're a musician they'd just give you weights and make sure you don't sound too good.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Ben on this! Breaking your hands just sounds beyond painful (reminds me of Bladerunner). But I like that you came up with new handicapps that weren't in the story. Creative!
ReplyDeleteWe're basically the same person. I think in the future, we should have secret crafting meetings to rebel.
